Dudley Byron Frank
Dudley loved music and played piano. He would always sing to strangers at the bank or anywhere he went. He raised four children, Jennifer, Jeff, Scott and Kerry. Dudley always had a plane and traveled the world including living abroad in Austria. His real estate ventures lead to many other investments which continued into his late eighties.
Dudley married his second wife, Laila Fiege-Kollmann, in 1986 and inherited four more children — Laila, Christer, Ylva, and Monica. Eventually, Dudley had 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He stayed athletic into his seventies and could free dive for four minutes without tanks. He loved the water and was a great skier and handball champion. He had a very full life and leaned into many adventures along the way. He was sharp as a tack. Dudley passed away on February 7th, 2021 after a fall a week prior. He will be missed dearly and was a great sounding board to many people.

So many things to say…I’ll just reflect on flying. Dudley was ready at a moment’s notice to hop in the plane and soar into the skies, through the clouds, climbing high to seek sunset after sunset. I will cherish the times he buzzed the house to let us know he was homebound from a flight, or buzz the cabin to let us know he had arrived in Big Bear, our cue to drive to the airport to pick him up. Flying to Catalina in the fog, chasing coyotes along the foothills of the Santa Ana Mts, spotting Christo’s yellow umbrellas dotting the California landscape – are some of the more memorable flights. I’m so thankful to Dudley for partnering with our Mom and sharing a life of countless adventures – in the sky, under the sea and in between. Fly high dear Dudley.

The glimmer in Dudley’s eyes, before he smiled big, and then: his voice filled the room (no matter how big!) with song! The joy and happiness those moments brought; we’d just smile inside for a long time. Among many other audiences, guests at our wedding decades later talk about one of those moments. I am grateful that he came in to my aunt Laila’s life, and through the that my and my family’s as well. / Jonas
